Don’t know what to do with your family’s old books?
To initiate a commission, go to our Contact page and describe what you have in mind, including details about the person or people you wish to honor. (Be sure to also forward a few photos of the books you want to use.) We’ll get back to you with some preliminary ideas, along with an estimate. The cost of a commissioned piece is based on the size of the artwork—generally $300 per square foot (24”x24” minimum, unframed). You can get a feel for our prices on the Current Work page.
The fun begins once the contract is signed. We’ll work on the piece together, gathering input and books from other family members who want to contribute to the project (if that’s what you want). The final piece will be based on a traditional or contemporary quilt design that can be abstract, geometric, or figurative.
Again, the material will come from the books you provide. If desired, the artist can incorporate other ephemera that may be meaningful to you and your family: photos, newspaper clippings, maps, letters, postcards, etc. Our goal is to create an original work-of-art that evokes warm memories for everyone involved.
